Effects of covid 19 on education
The disease Covid 19 spreads almost all over the world due to coronavirus. WHO( World Health Organization) declares it as a epidemic. For the safety of students and human lives almost all countries of the world decided to close educational institutions. Bangladesh is no different. Since March 17, 2020 all the educational institutes in the country remain closed. The direct and most immediate impact of covid 19 on the education sector is the loss in learning opportunities. More than 36 million students of Bangladesh are now out of school. However, the loss in schooling hours is not only impact looming out from the covid 19 crisis. On top of learning, school are also an important source of social protection, nutrition, health and psychological supports to children and young adults. Because of closing schools, colleges, universities the students are now neglect from their studies. Such fallout in poverty from economic crisis has long term impacts. Due to economic crisis many countries might see a higher rate of child labours, child marriages leading to higher dropout rates. As a result many students from poor family might never come to schools ever again. The crisis could be also more threatening for students with special needs. The maximum students with special needs are from poor family. They might face more extra challenges than like any other. After the pandemic, the crisis will not be easy for the students remaining at school either. Due to fall in income at large, many fathers might be not able to send their children to school. Many students might shift to low cost private schools from a well school.
Moreover, with a fall of pays, it could be the best teachers in schools might closed the job and involve with business or others job. Many public examinations or school, colleges examination could not be held due to coronavirus. In combating the losing in learning, one frequently suggested option is online teaching. Many students are now doing online classes but the students living in a rural area or from poor family can not able to involve with online classes. Many students have no smartphone, no laptop, no computer for attending online classes. The government should take necessary steps to mitigate the loss in education sector. When opening up the schools, colleges, the healthcare protocols should be followed strictly. WHO and the UNICEF has already prepared such guidelines. full free studentship should be given to the students from the poor family so that they can continue their studies. Government should increase allocation in education. By taking some necessary steps like this the loss on education sector can decrease.
