A report on causes of failure in English

Most of our students are very weak in English.

English is the international language. Now-days, we can't imagine our professional career without English. But it is a matter of sorrow that most of the students of our country are too weak in English. Even many students can't achieve pass marks in English. Student's failure in English is a common matter in Bangladesh. There are many reasons behind it. Firstly, improper techniques and unskilled teachers are responsible for that. A group of researchers specified some factors contributing to the problem.

The big reason is that English is an foreign language. Students have a wrong approach to English. They learn English not as a language but as a subject. Very few of them are earnest to learn English. Students learn English only for getting marks in the Examination. They only memorize some topics to write on exam's answer paper. Secondly, teaching foreign language is not overall an easy task for teachers. Many students have not the skilled of free hand writing in English. There are also more reasons to fail in English. We have to make a suitable environment to learn English properly.

Basic Concept of Gerund, participle & Infinitive

A gerund is a present participle (verb + ing) which works as a noun in a sentence. A gerund can only function as a noun.  Example :  1.    Swimming is a good exercise. 2.    Teaching is a great profession. 3.    Chair- sitting is a funny game. 4.    Playing for this team is an honor. 5.    Sleeping at this hour of the day is not good for health.
